Pyrrole Black Rice, an Ancient Rice Full of Vitamins, Iron, and Other Nutrients
Black rice is a type of ancient rice that is said to have its roots in Japanese rice. Compared to white rice, it is richer in protein, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin E, niacin, lysine, and tryptophan, as well as minerals such as iron, zinc, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium.
Black rice contains anthocyanin, a type of polyphenol, a natural blue-purple pigment in the pericarp and seed coat, which eliminates active oxygen in the body and helps to recover from eye strain. Anthocyanin also strengthens capillaries and improves blood flow, and is said to be effective in recovering from eye fatigue, watery eyes, and blurred vision.
Fukui black rice (variety: Asamurasaki) has been produced for over 20 years by farmers in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, the birthplace of the pyrrole farming method, and is well received by local agricultural cooperatives (JA).
